Sustainable, Organic, Local. What’s it spell? SOL!

The SOL Food Festival is a one-of-kind Santa Barbara tradition, welcoming all ages to learn from the food pros, enjoy community spirit and explore our region’s epicureal bounty. Santa Barbara Public Market merchants were delighted to add to the foodie fun in the fourth Annual Festival on September 28th.

For one day, the promenade along Santa Barbara’s Saturday Farmers Market and Vera Cruz Park was transformed into an outdoor community gathering to celebrate all things delicious. Over 6,000 people converged to learn about living healthy and eating locally against the backdrop of live music, cooking classes, chef competitions, sustainability talks, a wine stomp and more.


SOL’s tastiest part was the street-eats style Garden of Eatin’, boasting artisan treats- a perfect place to discover future-SB Public Market neighbor, Full of Life Flatbreads with seasonal snacks simmering in the woodfire oven.

Merchants set up shop with baskets full of complimentary SBPM reusable totes. In our tent, friendly faces from Juice Well, Flagstone Pantry, and Pasta Shoppe shared their culinary gifts with festival-goers. Flagstone’s chef-owner Kristen Desmond quickly ran out of her signature cowboy cookies, but had the recipe on hand for souvenirs, in addition to her chilled garden gazpacho.  Juice Well’s Sharon Egan served fresh-made juices and thoughtful tips for getting the best out of a cleanse.  Diane Harding of Pasta Shoppe was dishing out her handmade pastas to an eager crowd. The folks from Crazy Good Bread paired their delicious olive oils and vinegars with samples of their rustic bread.  Bonus: chic CGB boxes and bags were available, specially designed to extend bread-life.

Market merchants look forward to enlivening more Santa Barbara events as we get closer to our opening in spring 2014.
